I deactivated all of my social media. Just like that, on a total whim. I can’t give you an exact reason why as nothing tragic has occurred.
Honestly, I read a few articles about the negative aspects of it and decided pretty on the spot that I needed to lessen the distraction in my life. I haven’t looked back since. No withdrawal, no regrets and quite frankly the only times I’ve even thought about it are when I’m around others who happened to be saying, “Did you see this? Did you hear about that?”
It’s an odd feeling when you disconnect from the whirlwind of irrelevant information and find yourself completely present and engaged in the simplest of moments. Truly hearing the sounds around you, actually noticing the clouds as you’re driving or the details of buildings – they all feel more alive to me now, as absolutely silly as that sounds.
Stephen and I went to a wedding last night in Franklin, TN. It was on a large beautiful piece of land that had been in the bride’s family for over two decades. The ceremony took place under a canopy of large mature trees with a gorgeous green field in the backdrop. You could see an old mill in the distance that made you feel like you were transported to a beautiful day in the past. That is, until I glance around to everyone with their phones up. Some were snickering as they zoomed in and out of the groomsmen’s faces trying to get the “best” instagram story. It honestly made me sad and was a perfect example of why I was wanting to step away from social media.
I am not totally writing it off, but I am taking a break. Clearing my mind from all the nonessential information really helps me focus on my goals with fresh eyes. I want this blog to be as helpful as possible to for those following along and I think giving it some extra attention will be beneficial in the long hall.
Am I worried I will lose “my following”. The short answer is, no I’m not. I really feel like this is what I need to do right now. Be sure to sign up for my email list if you would like reminders when I post!
Lastly, does this have anything to do with finances? Nope, it doesn’t. I am fully aware this post does not fit the “brand” of this blog. However, it does have to do with people’s ability to get in touch with me, which gives me a free pass to dedicate an entire post to these ramblings. I don’t apologize. 🙂
Adieu for now, my friends.
